From Japanese booster packs of War of the Spark, Magic: the Gathering fans will be able to get some special planeswalker cards with Japanese alternate art. How much do you know about the artists who contributed to this set of special alternate art planeswalkers? Wizardry Foundry will show you 4 popular projects done by some of the Japanese artists involved in this special print run.
In 1987, Yoshitaka Amano joined Square Enix to work on Final Fantasy. Amano produced conceptual design pieces for the game in both traditional and digital artwork. According to another source, Amano was the lead character designer for many games in the series. He designed the characters and most of the enemies for Final Fantasy II to IX for which he is credited.

In War of the Spark, Amano provided the alternate art for Liliana, Dreadhorde General. Liliana is a pivotal planeswalker in the storyline responsible for death and destruction. In gameplay, she can manufacture new zombies tokens every turn!
Z/X - Zillions of Enemy X
Z/X is a Japanese collectible card game made by Nippon Ichi Software and Broccoli. Foo Midori contributed many of the game’s fan favorite angel artwork. They are used on its cards, deck storage boxes, and card sleeves.

Midori illustrated the alternative art for Narset, Parter of Veils, a beloved character first seen in Khans of Tarkir. Narset slots right into Commander decks looking to prevent their opponents from drawing cards. Midori also illustrated the alternate art version of Teyo, the Shieldmage. Teyo is a planeswalker that grants hexproof to its controller and provides a new blocker each turn.
Fate Grand Order
Fate Grand Order (FGO) is a Japanese online turn-based combat mobile game. The characters are called Servants and battle enemies for the player, called the Master. The artist Lack illustrated the Servant Okada Izō as well as two major Craft Essence cards in the game. The designs he created are beloved by fans of FGO.
In War of the Spark, Lack provided the alternate art for Sarkhan, the Masterless. Sarkhan is a dragon token producing planeswalker that can also turn all your planeswalkers on the field into dragons!
Fire Emblem is a fantasy role playing game by Nintendo. Daisuke Izuka is famous in Japan for doing the art from Fire Emblem series. Here are some of the artworks that he created for Fire Emblem:
Izuka illustrated the alternate art for Jiang Yanngu, Wildcrafter. This planeswalker can power up your team while helping you fix your mana.
Art comes in all shapes, forms, and style. Collabs like these between the west and east expose fans to different genres of art and projects. The cultural benefits are that Magic has access to new sets of audiences based on the aforementioned projects.
